  • At a media event this summer, Konica Minolta executives unveiled our “Blueprint for the Future,” which focuses on delivering more value to the customer. While the Blueprint emphasizes our transformation from a hardware company to a solutions and services company, it also highlights a fundamental change in the company’s DNA from being an expert on the product to an expert on the customer. In order for our customers to see us as experts, we continuously need to listen to and understand their business challenges and needs.

    Konica Minolta’s customer-first approach is exemplified by the way that our product development team incorporates customer feedback into new product releases. Last week, we released a new version of our automated workflow software application, Dispatcher Phoenix 4.2. All the new features are a direct result of customer feedback.

    Monochrome MFPs – Still Selling and Strong

    In a 2012 IDC report on MFP placements in the U.S., the market research firm showed that monochrome MFP sales far outnumbered color MFP sales.  IDC indicated that the total sales of B&W MFPs in 2012 reached 1,708,384 units, whereas sales of color MFPs totaled only 753,666.  That’s almost one million more B&W MFPs sold in the U.S. than color MFPs.

    As the data shows, monochrome MFP sales are still booming, and despite predictions that sales will decrease in 2013 and beyond, there are many reasons for the continued adoption of B&W devices. (more…)

    Cool Apps for School Teachers and Administrators

    September is here and that means the kids are back at school! As an educator, I love reading how technology is helping to engage a new generation of students to learn. Interactive white boards, iPads and educational apps are now common tools in the classroom.  But there are also a number of emerging solutions that help staff and teachers with basic administrative tasks.

    In a school setting the multifunctional printer (MFP) is constantly being utilized and is the ideal device to help streamline workflows or communicate key school messages and policies.  There are now downloadable apps (similar to those used on mobile devices) available specifically for MFPs that are designed to increase productivity and make school administrative tasks easier.     It’s no secret that mobile devices have changed the way people work. Recently, I have seen a number of articles highlighting how even technology adverse industries such as the legal community are embracing mobile technologies. It’s true – go into any law office or courtroom and it’s rare to see a lawyer without his or her smart phone or tablet computer.

    There are many productivity apps (TranscriptPad, FastCase, Easy Biller, Black’s Law Dictionary) that help lawyers manage their cases, documents and time.     Making Security a Non-Issue

    Protecting sensitive electronic information is of greater concern than ever before.  For those in industries such as legal or healthcare, the need to protect information from unauthorized access is even more critical given the demands of both governmental and organizational security regulations.   And while most of us are aware of the need to protect our intranets, electronic file databases, email systems, etc., not all of us are aware of the need to also protect our peripheral devices from potential security risks.
