Our planet is changing. Extreme winters, record-breaking droughts, up to 2,000 animal species becoming extinct each year.Earth Day

    April 22, 2015 marks Earth Day’s 45th anniversary.

In today’s eco-conscious world, it’s hard to imagine that before 1970, there were few to any laws or regulations to protect the environment.

On the first Earth Day, more than 20 million Americans demonstrated in cities across the country to demand a cleaner planet. In December 1970 Congress authorized the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to address environmental issues.

Today, environmental sustainability and climate change are part of a global conversation. With global warming occurring at a startling rate, citizens from all aspects of society are taking steps to ensure a habitable planet for future generations.

As a company that aims to create new value for society, Konica Minolta is thinking about the environment and the future of our planet.

Our Eco Vision 2050 sets the goal to reduce our products’ CO2 emissions by 80 percent by 2050. We’re well on our way to doing so. In the past year, we’ve received top recognition from global sustainability organizations such as Dow Jones, Nikkei Inc. and FTSE4Good.

We’re creating cutting-edge products that help our customers reduce their impact. We’re also enhancing programs like the Clean Planet Program, making it easier for customers to recycle their multifunction printer consumables. Our IT Department and Optimized Print Services are optimizing workflows to save energy and we’re greening our factories worldwide.

Beyond our products and solutions, we’re also addressing an issue that will not only determine the future of environmental sustainability, but the future of our industry. It is STEM education. Tomorrow’s innovators in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math will be our global leaders. They will create the technologies and solutions that will enable a sustainable world despite a growing population and depleting resources.

This April, we’re promoting STEM by making a donation to the Glen Rock Arboretum in Glen Rock, NJ. Our donation will help fund the construction of an education center. This will allow for year-round STEM and environmental programming for students and members of the community.

Our planet is a priority at Konica Minolta, and we will continue to develop new ways to ensure a prosperous future for our world.
