  • In 2010, Konica Minolta implemented a vertical marketing strategy and hired individuals like myself who were not from the office technology arena but whose expertise was in fields such as legal, healthcare, government, education, among others. Since that time, we have seen many of our dealers follow suit with vertical markets for their business. (more…)

Talk about kicking off 2018 with a bang! In the first week of the new year, several researchers reported a newly-found vulnerability in processors designed by Intel, ARM and others: one that theoretically allows hackers to read even the most secure information on any device. (more…)

As we quickly transition into a new year, I think back on 2017 and the rash of cyber security stories that made national and international news. Ransomware like WannaCry and NotPetya, the Equifax breach, SMBv1 and SSL vulnerabilities, etc. Even a global phishing scam used a fake Konica Minolta C224e scan to email message as bait.

Most noteworthy in the printer industry were the major campaigns launched by various MFP and print providers. As it turned out, one of the most prolific printer security campaigns actually backfired when it was discovered that the very printer vulnerabilities described in the campaign were actually discovered on their own portfolio of enterprise printers. You couldn’t make it up if you tried. (more…)

A recent New York Times article, “As Paperwork Goes Missing, Private Student Loan Debt May be Wiped Away”, reported on National Collegiate, one of the largest owners of private debt, which lost potentially $5 billion in student loans due to missing paperwork. While the students may be relieved, the lenders are certainly distressed because document scanning and indexing could have prevented their losses. The article noted that tens of thousands of people who took out private loans to pay for college — but have overdue payments — may get their debts wiped out. Judges around the country have dismissed dozens of delinquent borrower lawsuits because the loan holders can’t produce the paperwork to prove the person owns the debt. Recent cases in New Hampshire, Ohio and Texas have tossed out lawsuits by National Collegiate, ruling that it could not prove that the person named in the lawsuit owned the debt on which it was trying to collect. Earlier this year I attended a program at the Connecticut Forum entitled “Disruption! Innovators in business, media and culture,” and was reminded that disruption is happening in all industries in diverse ways. The Forum’s preface suggested that the disruption that we have heard about is connected to “disruptive innovation,” a term coined by Clayton M. Christensen to mean “when a small company with fewer resources can successfully challenge incumbent businesses.” Facebook, Netflix and Amazon were cited as examples. Basically, it’s a new idea that prompts a shift in an industry, giving us a new way to operate. (more…)

    Automated Artificial Intelligence Revolutionizes Printing

, Director, Franchise & Commercial Print Associations

From the home to the office to the print shop, artificial intelligence (AI) is bringing smart technology into our workplace to make our lives easier. When I want to listen to music, I don’t always want to think about what band, what album or even what song I want to hear. I don’t always have time to make or sort through a playlist for specific selections. Today, I use a personal automation listening app like Pandora to pick my mood/feeling/style/era of music and it fills in the great bands, the great albums and the best songs from that timeline. Simply put, Pandora automates and makes my life easier. (more…)

blog-cb-082917 (1)You might recognize this as the title of a song by Fleetwood Mac, a very popular band in the 1970s and ‘80s. It’s a fun song to listen to but if you think about it, what it’s saying is really motivating and inspirational as well. It may be easy to get into a rut in our everyday lives and start acting like tomorrow will be just another yesterday. But the truth is, new challenges and opportunities are always all around us. Just look at all of the technological changes that have occurred in the last five to 10 years. It wasn’t  that long ago that Netflix introduced online streaming, the iPad was first launched, e-readers changed the way we read books and Keurigs’ single serve system revolutionized the world of coffee.
